Joan Phelan Shuey
March 24th, 1929 - July 31st, 2016
Lexington, KY Joan P. Shuey, 87, died July 31, 2016. She is survived by daughters Connie (Edwin) Struss and Carol (Tim) Rohde; sons Steven (Denise) Shuey, Gary (Beth) Shuey and Mark (Charlotte) Shuey; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Shuey; son Thomas Shuey; grandson Matthew Shuey; great grandson Hudson Shuey, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Joan was a member of Pax Christi, where she helped found the Seniors Group. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. Having been married to Gene for 66+ years and raising 6 children, she knew how to run a household. Whether she was organizing a block party for her neighbors, a Derby party for family and friends, or putting together a back yard BBQ, she was the life of the party. And she loved to make sandwiches with Gene to take to the Hope Center to feed those in need. Though she started out as the baby of a family of 8 siblings, her love of family never wavered, especially during holidays. Joan will truly be missed. Funeral Information There will be a celebration of Joan's life from 5-8 PM, Wed., Aug. 3, 2016, with a time of sharing at 6 PM, at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing. www.clarklegacycenter.com.
