Obituary Mary Carolyn Luttrell Logan died Tues morning June 21st from a lengthy illness in the Hospice Care Center at St Joseph Hospital Lexington KY. Born August 6, 1934 in Combs KY to the late Charles and Louise Combs Luttrell, she also lived in Jeff KY and Hazard KY until she moved to Lexington KY in 1981. LIFE: Graduated 1953 Hazard High School and attended nursing school in Illinois which prepared her for a 10yr nursing job with the Appalachian Regional Hospital, during this period she was instrumental in setting up the Hospice Care Program in Perry County. In 1966 she went to work for the state KY as office manager for the Perry County Social Services Division in Hazard KY and transferred to the Lexington KY Leestown Rd Division in 1981. Married 1957 in Jeff KY to the late Eli Logan (deceased Nov 21, 2001) Nicknamed "Merk" by her friends and relatives, she was an extremely popular character who made friends very quickly, full of humor and wit, loved to play card games, cook, listen to music, playing the piano or organ, and a very avid sports fan watching KY basketball, NFL and much youth league activities. She was always willing to help out a family member or friend, she raised three children and was always helping organize things family related or public, she was head of concessions for the Hazard Little League and Babe Ruth for 8yrs, one of the most unselfish people you would ever meet, also took care of her mother Louise in her final years. Early 1990s Mary Carolyn's health began to decline and she was forced to retire early from her state job and soon afterwards had to have home healthcare. She was such a strong willed person that she was able to fight thru her illnesses for over two decades, but she lost the battle in 2011. Special thanks go out to the fine people of Hospice Care of the Bluegrass as her passing was painless and comfortable. She will be missed by many.
