Walter M. "Walt" Sherwood
November 4th, 1924 - December 3rd, 2014
Walter M. ""Walt"" Sherwood, 90, of Venice, FL and Morris Plains, NJ passed away December 3, 2014. Walt, who was proud of his service in the military, served as a co-pilot. He flew 35 missions in B-24 heavy bombers with the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. Walt's decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the European Theater Medal with four Battle Stars, the American Theater Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Subsequently he was a Flight Header, Instructor, and Check Pilot in B-25 medium bombers. Walt was a graduate of the Newark College of Engineering of the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the Class of 1950, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from Smiths Industries, Avionics Systems Division in Florham Park, NJ in 1988, after 23 years of service. His last position was Director of Marketing and Sales. Walt was married to Betty, his loving wife, for 67 years. He is also survived by his daughter Karen and her children: David (Jen) and great granddaughter Wyeth, Sean, and granddaughter Alyson (Michael) and great grandson Caleb, and son Glenn (Joni) and grandson Dylan. Walt will be missed by many. A private service and burial were held at Venice Memorial Gardens. Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel cared for the arrangements.
