Charles R Newcomer Jr., age 84, of Venice, Florida went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2014. He was born in Uniontown, PA on December 25, 1929 and moved to the Venice area in the early 80’s. He received his Masters degree from Northwestern University after graduating from Waynesburg College in PA. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He began his 30 year career with Merrill Lynch in St. Petersburg, Florida in the early 50s and moved to Evanston, Illinois to manage that office prior to moving to Venice to become manager and vice president of the Venice office. He acted as Chairman of the Venice Hospital foundation, was a past president of Mission Valley Country Club where he also served as a long term treasurer, was a longtime member of the Venice Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed many rounds of golf, the game he loved so much, during his 30 plus years as a member. He enjoyed his community and loved serving it. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marty, their five children and six grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored. Memorials may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, 14010 Roosevelt Blvd., # 709, Clearwater, Florida 33762 and to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34238. Services will be private. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
