David Thomas Pryor
December 28th, 2017 - December 28th, 2017
Pryor, David Thomas, 75, died peacefully in his sleep at home on December 28th. David was born in Campbellsburg, Kentucky on December 11, 1942 as the youngest son of the late John C. Pryor and Bessie Pryor and grew up in Madison, Indiana. He was a 1961 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School, and attended Hanover College. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Lee Pryor, whom he married in 1968. David strove to experience life to its fullest and to pursue his dreams. After early years of traveling, David and Patricia eventually settled down in Lexington, Kentucky to raise their two young children. David was larger than life and did many things during his life that many only dream of. As an interior designer, he decorated beautiful homes, and even a few yachts. As a horseman, he owned and trained multiple thoroughbreds and raced them across the country. From his beginnings in Campbellsburg, David also went on to travel extensively and embraced life as a journey rather than a destination. His favorite trips of all were to Riviera Maya with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His children remember a family full of constant new adventures growing up and a father with an independent and entrepreneurial spirit that they both inherited and treasure. Throughout his life, he also deeply valued his close circle of friends whom he cherished. His children are especially grateful for the many friends in his neighborhood and from Charlie Brown's restaurant who helped David and his beloved dog, Brody, during the years after his wife passed away and when he became ill. David is survived by his daughter, Gitanjali Gutierrez Minors (Fabian) in Bermuda, and his son, Ramsey Pryor (Soula) in San Ramon, California; his sisters Jewell Pryor Etienne (Duane) in Indianapolis, Indiana and Cathy Pryor in Oakland, California; and grandchildren Sophia Patricia Pryor, Julian Rhodes Pryor, Nalini Ella Hateya Minors, and Angeni Rose Sitara Minors, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Lee Young Pryor, sisters Joann Pryor Carder and Linnie Pryor McCracken, and his brother Robert Allen Pryor. A memorial service will be held at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church at noon on Tuesday, January 2nd. In lieu of flowers, donations to local hospice or to a charity of one's choice are suggested.
