Joseph Albert McCue
November 15th, 1935 - April 22nd, 2016
Joseph Albert McCue November 15, 1935 April 22, 2016Joseph Albert McCue of Edmonds, WA passed away peacefully of cancer on Friday, April 22nd in Seattle, WA. He was 80 years old.Joe was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to the US when he was an infant. He enjoyed his years in parochial school and began his college path at the University of Notre Dame in 1954. Joe obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from his beloved alma mater in 1958 and went on to receive his J.D. degree at Fordham University in 1962. His quest for learning never ceased and he attended Kings College, the London School of Economics, the University of Edinburgh and the MIT Sloan School of Management. In 2002, the University of Edinburgh bestowed upon Joe an Honorary Fellowship. Joes life was an exciting one filled with a loving family, a rich career and vast opportunities for travel and higher education (which he loved!). In 1961, Joe married Mary-Gaines Reardon and welcomed his first daughter, Frances Anne McCue in 1962. Shortly afterward, the marriage dissolved and a few years later, he met his second wife, Pat Kavanagh of Hastings, NY. Within a year, they were married on August 6, 1966. They moved overseas to Scotland to begin their wonde adventure together. For the next four years, their family grew larger with the birth of their three daughters, Jennifer (1967), Clare (1968) and Amy (1970). Throughout Joes life, he was devoted to his family and career. He worked as an attorney on Wall Street, held a position with the FBI and worked at Barclays Bank, PLC for 24 years until his retirement as Executive Vice President (Human Resources/ Legal Division). Joes various positions took his family to London, Edinburgh, the Virgin Islands, Houston, Boston, and New York City. Following his executive banking career, Joe worked for eleven years as a visiting Professor in the Management School at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.Joe read voraciously and rarely relaxed. When he did, it was either on the golf course or in his living room recliner where he read four newspapers every day. He constantly clipped out articles to share with friends and family. As messages of condolence arrive from all over the globe, there is a resounding sense of gratitude for the conversations, hospitality and generosity that Joe bestowed on his friends and family. He always welcomed a crowd to his home for any holiday or a weekend at Cape Cod. Joe is survived by four daughters, Frances, Jennifer, Clare (Kevin Reuter) and Amy. His love of learning was passed onto all of his children and he cherished his six grandchildren: Madeleine (20), Kyla (11), Seneca (10), Cartney (9), Ellie (9) and Sadie (7). They will miss him dearly and have fond memories of their Granda. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds, WA on Thursday, April 28 at 10:30am.
