Ronald John Wanner

Ronald ""Ron"" J. Wanner, 71, of Venice, FL, formerly of Easton, MD passed away April 29, 2014. Ron was born November 11, 1942 in Washington, DC to Ruth Anita (Newkirk) and Howard Gregory Wanner. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C.. He worked for Litton Industries of College Park, MD before joining The Whalen Company of Easton, MD in 1968. He succeeded J. Warner Whalen as President and CEO in 1995. After retirement in 2005, Ron continued to serve as Chairman of the Board until his passing. He was a member of Epiphany Cathedral and Pelican Pointe Golf & Country Club and he enjoyed golf, racquet ball and waterfowl hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William (Bill) Wanner. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Kathleen; three daughters: Sherri (Steve) Massey of Cumming, GA. Marci (John) Sobczak of Sarasota, FL, Jenifer (JB) Marquette of Sarasota, FL; son: Craig (Katie) Wanner of Easton, MD; two sisters: Jean A. Hahn of Upper Marlboro, MD and Mary (Jim) Farrington of Durham, NC; 8 grandchildren: Matt Massey, Stefany Massey, Spencer Sobczak, Alex Sobczak, Graham Marquette, Andrew (AJ) Marquette, Thomas Hilliard and Emma Grace Wanner. His family and friends were his greatest joy. Memorial Gathering will be held from 2-3 PM with Memorial Service at 3 PM, Saturday, May 3 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. Memorial Donations may be made to Loveland Center, 157 Havana Rd, Venice, FL 34292.
