Ruth Diane Godwin
July 9th, 1947 - October 27th, 2019
Ruth Diane Godwin (Diane J. Godwin), 72, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Central Baptist Hospital with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. A native of Durham, she was born on July 9, 1947 to the late John James Sr and Lenora Duncan James. Diane graduated from Durham High in 1965 and Wilson Nursing School in 1969. Diane’s career in nursing spanned nearly her entire life until her retirement from Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC as an Oncology RN. In addition to being a nurse, Diane was also an artist...painting with watercolors and acrylics, crocheting, knitting, tatting and woodworking. There was no craft that she could not master. Diane had many interests in life but her favorites were spending time with her family and friends as well as spending time at Topsail Island with the sea turtles and dolphins and collecting sharks teeth. Diane had a genuine and giving personality. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring mother and is survived by her children: Susan Tackett and her husband Matt & Jennifer Godwin-Wyer and her husband Paul, her grand-children: Jessica Campbell, Sarah Tackett and Callum Wyer and her great grandchildren: Jensen Smith, JT Smith and Josie-Beth Smith. Diane leaves behind her siblings: sister Lois James Parrish; brother John G. (Gary) James and wife Paula Browning James; brother William P. (Billy) James and his wife Ann Campbell James. Diane was cremated according to her wishes. We will be spreading her ashes at her favorite place, Topsail Island, NC on June 27th, 2020 at 1pm with a reception to follow to share stories, memories and fellowship. Please mark your calendars and EMAIL [email protected] for the address. In lieu of flowers, please post pictures and fond memories with Diane on Clark Legacy Centers website (https://www.clarklegacycenter.com/)
