Charles Hubbard Lord
December 26th, 1944 - March 4th, 2021
Loving husband, father, dedicated teacher and disciple of Jesus, Charles “Chuck” Lord died surrounded by family on March 4, 2021. Throughout his battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (similar to Parkinson’s Disease) and other health issues, Chuck remained positive and grateful, maintaining his dry sense of humor and enjoying many close friendships. Chuck grew up in Madison, WI, and attended high school in Ridgewood, NJ. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Lawrence University (WI), where he met his sweetheart, Sue, in a music theory class. They married and moved to Bloomington, IN, where he earned a Master’s in Piano Performance and a PhD in Music Theory from Indiana University. During the Vietnam War, Chuck served in the Navy and was stationed on Guam. Afterward, he taught music theory at Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY (1972-1978) and then music theory and music technology at the University of Kentucky (1978-2008). Chuck enjoyed a second career with Spiritual Leadership, Inc. (SLI). He was an original board member and SLI Coach, helping churches across the world become healthier organizations. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Elizabeth Lord. He is survived by his wife, Sue, and daughters, Karen (Brian) Lord-Powell, Ellen (Cory) Brown, and Rebecca (Jared) Vaughn, and grandchildren, Jequan, Dillon, Phoebe, Jack, and Finn, as well as his sister Pat (Maureen) Lord. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, at 1 pm EST at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 2351 Alumni Drive, Lexington, KY.
