Astley Spence passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of August 23rd after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Astley was born on January 3, 1912 in Petersfield Westmoreland Jamaica, where he grew up and then moved to Kingston Jamaica where he met the love of his like Pearl (Kitty). They later moved to Bronx, New York where he and his wife Pearl lived many years. In 1985, after raising their three sons and two daughters, Astley, and his wife Pearl, retired in beautiful North Port, FL where they were members of St. Nathaniel’s Episcopal Church. Astley is survived by five children: Cornell (Eaton), Astor (Wayne), Ann Marie, Loraine and Mark, sixteen grandchildren: Duane, Maurice, Kimberle, Dionne, Nicole, Dwight, Trent, Christopher, Curtis, Christopher, Chelsey, Marcos, Andrecia, Tianni, Helena, and Sofia, nine great grandchildren: Kyann, Destiny, Justin, London, Jahleel, Taylor, Zyon, Cameron, and Trent. Astley is also survived by Joy Spence, Elaine Spence, Lesma Spence, Wellington (Wally) Henry, Noel Lloyd, Kirk Coombs, Maria Spence, Carolyn Spence, and Amalia Pineda. He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl Spence, three brothers: Raymond, William (Willy), Franklin (Uncle Peachie) and three sisters: Icylyn (Icy), Lynn and May. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all of those who new him. A visitation will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 1365 Viscaya Drive in Port Charlotte, Florida on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 10:00-AM-11:00AM with a service to immediately follow. Entombment will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens in Venice. Farley Funeral Home in North Port is handling the arrangements.
