Hugh William Cross
September 28th, 1931 - February 28th, 2023
Hugh William Cross, 91, husband of the late Imogene Higdon Cross, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in Lexington. Hugh was born in Independence, Missouri on September 28, 1931 to the late George Milton and Clara Hanken Cross. Hugh worked in radar bomb scoring with the United States Air Force for 21 years, as well as serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In civilian life he loved spending time fishing, even building his own boat with his son, cooking for family and friends, and tinkering with all things electronic and mechanical. He is survived by his son, Clinton H. Cross, of Crab Orchard, KY; his brother, Robert (Margie) Cross, of Berry, IL; his grandchildren, Jessica (Lance) George, of Lexington, KY, and Chad Cross, of Paint Lick, KY; his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth George, Layla George, Luke George, Ava George, and William Clay George; and his military and lifelong friends, Willy and Hazel Spence, of MI, and Bonnie Schibler, of KY. In addition to his wife and parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his sister, Roberta Cooke; his brothers, George "Bud" Cross Jr., and Fred Cross. A committal service at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY with military honors will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2:30PM.
