George Eide
April 9th, 1926 - April 25th, 2018
DADDY ER HJEMMME Born April 9, 1926 in Ualand, Norway, the 8th child of Mikal & Ingeborg Eide, George passed away in Seattle on April 25, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kirsten; children Ingrid Tate, Rita White, George (Sharon) Eide, Dan (Jan) Eide; grandchildren Doug, Jonathan, Rachelle, Ryan, Renae, Mikal; great grandchildren Dominique, Sacha, Devon, Corinne, Sophia, Jordan, Kyler, Malia, Mason, Lauren, Berkly, Cosette, Ethan, Elayna, Liam, Luke and Eli. George immigrated to America shortly after WWII with his brother Lars, joining another brother and sister near Lynden WA. In 1947 while clearing land in Lynden, WA, in an explosion of dynamite caps, George lost his life, but skilled WWII veteran doctors familiar with his shrapnel wounds were able to resuscitate him. George lost an eye in that explosion – a situation he used to his delight in future years. Soon after his recovery he contracted tuberculosis and ended up at the Riverton TB sanatorium in south Seattle. It was here that he met the love of his life, Kirsten, who worked at the sanitarium. Dad lived through this second brush with death, and did he ever live! George and Kirsten married on July 29, 1953 and moved to Edmonds in 1962 to be near their church family at Westgate Chapel. George worked in landscaping until he retired at 70. When we four kids were small, dad would come home after a long day of hard work and we would run out of the house shouting in Norwegian, "Daddy Hjemme"! We would grab firm hold of dad's legs as he trudged up the yard. Tuesday evening April 24th, in the hospital dad adamantly said, "I'm healed, I'm going home tomorrow!" Wednesday morning, April 25th, at 8:04 AM dad received his ultimate healing after a life of hard work and went Home to Heaven to touch the face of God. Their life together, full of love and tender care, ended as it began, with mom by his side in a hospital. Only this time 20 of us, his legacy, gathered at dad's side. We shared dad stories, we laughed, cried, laughed again followed by more tears and laughter. We are sure of this, Daddy's Home. Farewell viewing will be open to all family and friends on Monday May 14th at Becks Funeral Home in Edmonds 10:00 a.m. until Noon. A celebration of life service will be held at Westgate Chapel in Edmonds on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.
