A Celebration of Life service for 1SG (Ret) Archie L. Lindsay will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at Progressive Believers Baptist Church with full military honors and interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be sent to www.greenlawn-columbia.com. 1SG (Ret) Archie L. Lindsay, was born on July 21, 1939 in St. Augustine, FL. He was the oldest of six children born to the late Joseph David Lindsay and Ella Frazier Lindsay. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, SC. Educated in the public schools of Palm Beach County, Florida; he was a 1958 graduate of Lake Shore High School. In 1961, Archie married the love of his life, Mildred R. Bowden Lindsay. On July 1, 2011, Archie and Mildred celebrated 50 years of holy matrimony! He was widowed as of August 14, 2011. He served his country honorably for 22 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a First Sergeant with numerous medals/awards. He also retired from Union Camp Corporation. He was a lifetime member of DAV Chapter #4 Woodrow Wilson, Columbia SC. Archie was a member of Stuttgart Military Lodge #581, Unity Lodge #115, Free and Accepted Masons(PHA) of Dayton OH and a member of Faisal Temple #192 of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry (PHA), Southern Jurisdiction (32d degree). He was a Deacon at New Light Beulah Baptist Church/Progressive Believers Baptist Church. Archie was a bar-b-que master, he love for grilling was known throughout the places he lived. He was a fixer and mastered many thing (electronic, machines cars). He was an avid gardener that shared his produce with family and friends. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Jacqueline Williams, Alicia M. Lindsay Cunningham, & Keisha (Lamar Hollis) Taylor; grandchildren, India Dre Harris, Reagan Smith & Tahlia Taylor-Hollis, and Miller Cunningham, III and Lindsay Taylor Cunningham; two great-grandchildren, Zealan Harris-Williams & Kingston Harris-Wilkerson; two brothers, Willie L. (Carolyn) Lindsay & Anthony Lindsay; three sisters, Bernice Patrick , Massaline (Benjamin) Thomas, & Debbie J. (Martin) Douglas; brother-in-laws, Gerald Bowden, Bernard (Loretta) Taylor, & Melvin J. Taylor, Cortez (Doris) Taylor, Jr., Joseph (Mary) Seldon, and Larry (Brenda) Seldon; sister-in-laws, Victoria (Walter) Taylor-Jackson, Helen (Charlie) Williams, Elizabeth (Jimmy) Edmunds, Catherine L. Bowden, Eleanor Seldon and Lonnie Dell Seldon, & Ann Kylow; godchildren, Henry Wright, Jr. & Johanna Griffin; a host of nieces, nephews, special friends and the Progressive Believers Baptist Church family.
