Greenlawn Memorial Park: Historic, Peaceful, Beautiful

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum.


Greenlawn Memorial Park is the resting place for notable figures like Matthew J. Perry, Jr., the state's first African-American U.S. District Judge. Born in Columbia, Perry helped gain the legal release of over 7,000 people arrested for participating in Civil Rights demonstrations. He was posthumously inducted into the South Carolina Hall of Fame.

I want to sincerely thank the entire team at the cemetery for the way my husband’s service was handled. From the moment we arrived, the office Rachel and the staff treated our family with kindness, professionalism, and grace. Every detail was managed with care and compassion, which meant so much during such a difficult time. The maintenance team also deserves special recognition—the grounds were beautifully maintained, peaceful, and respectful. It’s a comfort knowing my husband is laid to rest in such a serene and beautiful place. Thank you for helping us honor his memory with dignity and love.
