Richard Anthony Barnes
November 29th, 1953 - May 16th, 2024
Richard Anthony (Tony) Barnes, age 70, of Columbia, died unexpectedly in his home on May 16, 2024. Born on November 29, 1953 in New Bern, NC, he was the son of the late Willard Ray Barnes and Anne Moore Barnes. Tony attended A.C. Flora High School, until he was rezoned to Keenan High School, where he graduated in 1972. Tony graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1976 with a Business degree in Marketing and Management. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at USC. Tony was a very charismatic and witty fellow. He was an avid sports fan and loved nothing more than to discuss Gamecock sports or Atlanta Braves baseball, as well as politics with his friends for hours on end. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Buddy Barnes. Surviving are his other brother, Terry Barnes, and his wife Dianne of Columbia; sister-in-law, Lynn Barnes of Chapin; niece, Lisa Evans and her husband, Bryan of Chapin; nephew Ryan Barnes and his wife, Amber; and niece Caroline Barnes, all of Columbia. He is also survived by four great-nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF Georgia & South Carolina Chapter, PO Box 1551, Hagerstown, MD 21741-1551.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
