Aletha Ann Dykstra
March 9th, 1926 - November 11th, 2020
Aletha Ann Dykstra, 94, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away November 11, 2020 at her assisted living home in Colorado Springs.She was born March 9, 1926 to Henry and Anna (Hickman) Luitjens in Ashton, Iowa.After attending high school in Ashton, Iowa and business college in Sioux City, Iowa, Aletha was united in marriage to Frank Dykstra from Boyden, Iowa. They made their home in Sheldon, Iowa where Frank was a plumber by trade. She worked as a bookkeeper and later as assistant administrator at Sheldon Community Hospital. Frank died in 1967 and Aletha remained in Sheldon until 1997 when she moved to Des Moines, Iowa. In 2016, she relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she lived until her death. Aletha enjoyed reading, sewing, crafting, traveling, playing cards, and a good cup of coffee (or two)! She loved music, and singing hymns and the "good old songs." She loved Jesus, and she loved her family and friends. Aletha chose joy each day of her life! She was kind and caring, generous and welcoming. Everyone who knew her loved and respected her. She will be missed! She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dykstra; her son, James Dykstra; her parents, Henry and Anna Luitjens; brother, Marvin Janssen; and sister, Wilma Cook.Aletha is survived by her daughter, Patricia L. (Wayne) DeKam of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Joan Dykstra of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Chad (Alison) DeKam, Todd DeKam, and Brian (Ashley) DeKam, all of Colorado, Joshua (Shanna) Dykstra and Jill Dykstra, both of Wisconsin; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to our wonderful family, the many friends at Mercy Park Apartments in Des Moines, Iowa, and the many friends and caregivers at Windsong Senior Living and Cascade House Assisted Living in Colorado Springs, Colorado.A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
