Alfred Adam, Jr.
June 8th, 1934 - June 3rd, 2019
Alfred Albert Adam, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 3, 2019, at his home in Venice, Florida, surrounded by his devoted wife and family. Al was born to Alfred and Marian Adam on June 8, 1934, in New London, Connecticut. He was married to his loving wife Eleanor (Ellie) Adam for 64 years. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Lou Stegner of Fairborn, OH. Al and Ellie moved their family from New London to Vernon, Connecticut, in 1967, where they raised their four children. Al had a very successful business career in Connecticut, becoming CEO of Adam's Business Products, Inc. He was very active in his community as President of the Vernon Rockville Rotary Club where he won the Paul Harris Fellow Award for exceptional service to the community. Al also established the Vernon Friends of Music when his children were involved in the school music program and coached his son's Little League baseball team. He spent an inordinate amount of time driving to hockey practices. He was truly their greatest cheerleader and supporter. In 1999, Al and Ellie moved to Venice, Florida, where they loved the beaches, the restaurants, and the warm weather. They became very involved members of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Venice where he organized the Blue Mass every September to honor fallen first responders. Al and Ellie were both Stewardship Leaders for the church. Al was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9924 based at Our Lady of Lourdes where he was a past Grand Knight and a District Warden. Al, along with Ellie, was very talented at creating and selling unique crafts and loved attending craft shows throughout Florida. They also enjoyed working at the Sarasota County Elections office in Venice for many years. More than anything, Al loved his family. He leaves his children; Cindy Adam of Venice; Kathy and Bill St. Jean of Venice; Chuck and Deb Adam of Boxford, MA and Mary Ellen and Bob Ryan of Bellingham, MA. Al adored all of his grandchildren; Kim and John Kwak, Kristina and Pat Massino, Ashley Adam and her fiancé Eric Tamiso, Jennifer Ryan, Melissa Adam and her fiancé Max Steinbreck, Meagan Ryan, Lindsay Adam, and Allie Adam as well as his great grandchildren, Gianna Massino, Alexandra Kwak, Antonia Massino, and Matthew Kwak. Al also leaves behind his nephews, Bob, Tom and Tim Stegner, a niece Louise Fullam and kept a close relationship with his brother in-law Ralph Stegner of Ohio. Papa took special joy in spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved creating and telling them funny stories about ""Freddie the Pink Elephant"", playing in the pool, looking for sharks' teeth and bragging to anyone that would listen how very, very proud he was of all of them. His grandchildren loved him very much, and they all loved spending time with their Papa. He also loved Jazz, Bluegrass and Jimmy Buffett. Al loved to have fun and believed it's always ""5 o'clock somewhere."" In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made to the Knights of Columbus Backpack Program at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Venice, FL.
