Alfred W. Vasel, age 82, died on May 6, 2006 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, FL after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Brockton, MA on June 27, 1923. He was a winter resident of North Port, FL and spent the summers at his home in Hampton, NH. He was a graduate of Northeastern University, Boston, MA, earning his BS degree in Electrical Engineering. He was the inventor of the Photo Electric Smoke Detector and the owner of Pyrotechtor which had factories in Hingham, MA, London, England and Germany with licenses in Japan and Australia. He sold Pyrotechtor to Gamewell and retired in 1976. He was a Navy Veteran during WWII serving in the South Pacific. Alfred is survived by his beloved wife, Lydia Vasel (nee Delabarre) of North Port, FL and Hampton, NH, devoted children, son, Gregory Gendron of Newburyport, MA and daughter, Lisa Marie Gendron of Hampton, NH; grandson, Adam Bullard also of Hampton, NH, and nephews, Kenneth Petkunis of Brockton, MA, Joseph Petkunis of Warren, RI and Frank Petkunis of Middleton, NH. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 between 6 and 7 PM at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home in Hampton, NH with a gathering at the Galley Hatch Restaurant in Hampton immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Farley Funeral Home and Crematory, North Port Chapel is handling arrangements.
