COLUMBIA: A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Allen Dozier Layson, 83, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Shandon Baptist Church Chapel with the Reverend Jerry Long officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. Mr. Layson, of Columbia, died Thursday evening, January 10, 2013, in Huntersville, NC. Born December 10, 1929, in Jasper County, GA, Mr. Layson was the son of Allen Seals and Lila Floyd Layson. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1952. Mr. Layson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Uniroyal and Anchor Continental. He was an active member of Shandon Baptist Church for over 40 years, and enjoyed many hobbies including genealogy, gemstone faceting, and woodcarving. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Rutledge Layson, second wife, Betty Will McReynolds Layson, and a sister, Martha Sue Layson Lee. Mr. Layson is survived by his sons, Charles Allen Layson, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lindsay Harrison Moose and his wife Terri of Arlington, VA; daughter, Deborah Layson Elvington and her husband Fulton of Huntersville, NC; sister, Gail Speering and her husband David of Asheboro, NC and nine grandchildren.
