Andrew Fuqua
April 29th, 1946 - February 13th, 2016
Andrew E. Fuqua was born April 29, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Hosper and Edna Mae Stevens. Andrew (Andy/Drew) was one of eleven children in the family. After graduating high school, he was drafted into the U. S. Marines and served as a rifleman in Vietnam before being discharged in 1967. Andrew returned to Cleveland after military service, where he was employed with Cleveland Builders until he began his employment at United Airlines in 1973. Andy was transferred to Denver in 1980 but also spent time at stations in San Francisco, Chicago and Phoenix before retiring from United in 2002. He was very much involved with the Denver Chapter of United Airlines Black Professional Organization (BPO), collecting and delivering food baskets on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Andrew spent his retirement years traveling with Denver veterans to the National Senior Golden Age Games where he participated in the horseshoes and dominoes competition. Andrew was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the PTSD Disabled Veterans of Colorado and TREA. A trip to San Francisco to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge with other PTSD Disabled Veterans was especially memorable. He looked forward to modeling in fashion shows at TREA, playing dominoes and bid whist and restoring his old cars. Andrew met and befriended many people while traveling with the veterans groups and visiting friends all over the Denver area. He could have served as the city’s goodwill ambassador known for his colorful attire with suit, shoes, socks and hat to match. Andrew united in marriage with Mauricia Craig in 1982. He introduced “Reccie” to Denver and they enjoyed their life together with new friends. Andrew became a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church on New Year’s Eve 2013 where he soon joined the Greeters’ and Repast Ministries. He was especially enthusiastic about being a greeter as it allowed him to meet more people and talk!! Andrew is survived by his wife, Mauricia; daughter Felicia, granddaughter Dominique, seven siblings and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Rest in peace … Andy.
