Ann Fisher Linder, 84, died Friday, September 2 in Monterey, California. Born February 2, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Donald A. and Katherine (Galigher) Fisher. She attended Grandview Heights High School in Columbus and set high personal goals for her education, attending Randolph Macon Women?s College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and graduating from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1948. On September 21, 1948 she married Isham Linder at the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, Maryland and embarked on a life as a Navy wife, moving as her husband?s assignments to ships and naval air stations took the family from coast to coast ? establishing an astonishing total of 29 different homes for her family across thirty-five years. At all times artistic, kindhearted, practical and warm in her outlook on life, Ann lastingly shared her thoughtful talents, spirit and ideals with family and friends. Her passion and gift for the arts led her to become an accomplished needleworker and imaginative quilter and she served on the national board of directors of the Embroiders Guild of America. She rose to become a credentialed judge of needlework, a docent at La Mirada Adobe in Monterey and with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and a volunteer at the Monterey Museum of Art. She also thoroughly enjoyed the pleasures and mysteries of history and genealogy and was employed as a genealogist at the Daughter?s of the American Revolution headquarters in Washington, DC. Ann and her loving cats, Nanny Grey and Sergeant, were constant companions across many years. Ann is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rear Admiral Isham Linder, USN (ret); five children, Captain Bruce Linder, USN (ret) of Coronado, California, Susan Linder of Pacific Grove, California, Nancy Linder of Petaluma, California, David Linder of Littleton, Colorado, and Mary B. Linder of Madison, Wisconsin; one brother, Richard B. Fisher of Easton, Maryland; three granddaughters, Terri, Kelly, and Sarah Linder; as well as many friends on the Monterey Peninsula and throughout the United States. Her brother, Rear Admiral Jack Fisher of Scottsdale, Arizona, preceded her in death. A family memorial service was held in her honor in Monterey.
