Ann Miller Wingate

Ann Miller Wingate, age 84, of West Columbia, died March 2, 2020, at home. She was born in Columbia, SC. She is survived by a nephew, Frank Timmons (Herb Caldwell); niece, Brandis Timmons Roberts (John Roberts); grand-niece, Alley Timmons and grand-nephew, Max Timmons; sisters-in-law, Sara Kay Jones and Angela Haskell (Nat Haskell). She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Eunice Cogburn Wingate and Claude King Wingate; her sister, Claudia Timmons (Mac Timmons) and nephew, Edward Timmons. She graduated from Dreher High School in 1954, received a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina in 1958 and a Master’s degree in 1985. She taught school for many years in SC, GA and FL, most recently at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and Shandon Presbyterian kindergarten. Ann was a great cook and loved to try new recipes. She was a wonderful seamstress and talented decorator who made beautiful curtains and drapes. Her hobbies included mystery jigsaw puzzles and reading good books. Nobody loved a bargain better than Ann. She had a passion for Saturday garage sales with her lifetime best friend, Ann Thomas Gilmore. Funeral services will be held at Brookland United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookland United Methodist Church, 541 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC 29169.
