Archie W. Owens, Jr.

Archie W. Owens, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2021. Archie was born on April 17, 1945 in Columbia, SC to the late Archie W. Owens, Sr. and Floy Anderson Owens. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Harvell Owens; his son, Archie W. Owens, III (Mandy); grandson, Archie W. Owens, IV (AshLynn); his sister, Catherine Logan (Roger) of Alabama; and nieces, Casey Coleman (Steve) and Brandy Conway (Patrick). Archie attended and received his formal education at AC Moore, Hand Middle School and after graduating from Dreher High School, he enlisted in the US Marine Corp Reserves. He was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. In 1950, his father started Owens Welding and Archie worked alongside of him until his father passed in 1989. Up until his retirement in 2016, Archie continued to manage the business with his son, Archie, III who continues to carry on the family business. A loving and devoted father, Archie especially enjoyed coaching his son Archie III’s Pony League baseball team. He always had a passion for street rods and race cars. Archie Jr. and his son Archie III drag raced for 30 years and they loved every minute and moment together! Visitation for Archie will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 6:00-8:00pm. A graveside service celebrating his life will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00am on Friday, October 1, 2021 with Reverend Terry Smoak from Kilbourne Park Baptist Church and Chaplain Jude Peck from Halcyon Hospice of Columbia officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of our beloved Archie may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org; Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org or to Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, 4205 Kilbourne Road, Columbia, SC 29206. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Margo and Tarzanna for the outstanding care they gave to Archie. The Owens family would also like to thank Halcyon Hospice of Columbia along with their wonderful staff, JoAnn, Teresa, Monica as well as Chaplain Jude Peck for the outstanding care and support during this time. Due to Covid concerns and in accordance with protocols, masks (complete coverings) are required for those in attendance at the visitation.
