Barbara E. DeLong

Barbara DeLong, 86, of North Port, Florida, and formerly Venice, Florida died on December 24, 2016. Born in The Bronx, New York on August 1, 1930, Barbara grew up in NY, went to Walton High School, and spent her summers in Eliot, Maine where her parents Paul and Anne Stobbe built a home on the banks of the Piscataqua River. Barbara worked for Sinclair Refining Company before joining General Motors for 20 years, starting in 1965 in Tarrytown, NY, then promoted to GM Training Center Manager moving in 1976 from Yorktown Heights, NY to Oklahoma City, OK; St. Louis, MO; Detroit, MI; Union, NJ, then her last position in Boston, MA. It was during her time in Michigan she and her husband came to Venice, FL. While retired in Venice, Barbara and her husband Konrad worked for AC Nielsen for over 12 years, and they volunteered together at Venice Hospital, the Jacaranda Library and the North Port Library. They also volunteered at the Sarasota County Poll Workers, North Port Performing Arts Center, and the American Cancer society. Barbara was a member at the Heron Creek Golf and Country club for 15 years as well as the Venice Yacht Club and Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club. Barbara will be remembered for her love of entertaining, travelling in style to destinations around the world, and passion for fine dining and exotic cuisine; but moreover for her pride and attention to detail in promoting her family’s well-being, health, and comfort to realize an enduring, prosperous life. Family members include two devoted daughters, Suellen Delong, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Melanie (Sameh) Ghobrial, North Port, FL; and devoted son, Konrad (Angela) Delong, Jr. Houston, TX; 4 grandchildren who smothered her with love, Kareem Ghobrial (Amelia), Rochelle Delong, Nicole Ghobrial, and Austin Delong, and 3 nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Konrad Delong, Sr. On February 17, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., there will be a Celebration of Life at Farley Funeral Home in North Port, FL, (5900 S Biscayne Dr., North Port, FL 34287; (941) 426-2880) Barbara was a donor to the National Temporal Bone Registry.
