Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Barbara Jones Foster
July 27th, 1932 - March 1st, 2015
Barbara Foster, aged 82, died peacefully on March 1, 2015 at her home Venice, Florida at Sunset Lakes Village from complications related to COPD. Barbara was born on July 27, 1932 in Mount Vernon, NY to George Jones Sr. and Claire Spahr. Barbara's youth was spent in Mount Vernon, NY and Putnam Lake, NY where she enjoyed a happy childhood. She attended A.B. Davis High School and was heavily involved in her sorority where she built lifetime friendships and wonderful memories. Barbara was also a member of the Eastern Star in her early life. Barbara fell in love with James Foster and they were married in October of 1954. They were married for 22 years. Barbara spent a lifetime working hard to support her family and in 1983 she moved to Venice, FL to build a new life. She quickly found comfort in Venice and spent the next 25 years serving others at Morrison's Cafeteria and Buddy Freddie's. She loved her work immensely and was very grateful to have lived a life where she could see many people every day and gather so many friends. After her retirement, Barbara often talked with fondness about the community, the people she had the good fortune to work with, and the thousands of people she got to meet from all walks of life. Barbara's greatest joy was her family and the best moments in her life were simply spent around those she loved the most. We will miss her. Barbara is survived by her five children Brenda Dahlstrand and her husband David; James Foster Jr. and his wife Mary; Bruce Foster; Brian Foster and wife Stephanie; Mark Foster and his wife Melissa; nine grandchildren; one great- grand child; and a number of other amazing relatives and close friends who will cherish her spirit and honor her determination as a survivor in life. The family will have a private service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the American Lung Association at http://www.lung.org/lung-disease/copd/.
