Mission Mortuary - Monterey
Beatrice Grace McGee
March 12th, 1926 - June 23rd, 2013
Beatrice G. McGee, 87, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 23, 2013. She was the wife of the late Capt. Morris L. McGee (USA Ret). Beatrice was born in White Deer, Texas on March 12, 1926, the fourth daughter of John E. and Bessie M. (Pryor) Latta. She was raised in Delta, Colorado. She was working as the personal assistant to Col. Clyde G. Young at Camp Roberts in California in 1951 when she met Morris. Beatrice loved to travel and her travels with the Army took her through Europe and to Okinawa, as well as all over the United States and in later years she traveled to Alaska and the British Isles with her children. Upon retirement from the Army, Morris and Beatrice settled on the Monterey Peninsula where they raised their five children. She was active in Cub Scouts with her sons and Brownies with her daughters, as well as her children's numerous school activities. She created many, many wonderful memories for her children of camping trips, road trips, and just playing kick-the-can outside with them or picking huckleberries in Deer Flats with them. She always allowed her children to have a menagerie of animals from dogs and cats to geese and chickens to hamsters, rabbits, and rats. Bea worked for the Scotch Bakery in Pacific Grove for a short time and then went to work for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District as Registrar at Seaside High School and Monterey High School until her retirement. Bea was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an animal lover and will be greatly missed by her little dog, Sam. She is survived by her five children: daughter, Cynthia Alynne Wright (John) of Marina, CA; son William Latta McGee (Sam Sutrino) of Alturas, CA; daughter, Susan Beatrice Clark (Richard) of Litchfield, CT; son, Robert Bryant McGee (Marsha Mullins) of Capitola, CA; and son, Morris McGee, Jr. of Elk Grove, CA; granddaughters, Pamela Van Valkenburg (Michael) of Del Rey Oaks, CA; Jennifer Clark of El Dorado Hills, CA; grandson, Jeffrey Clark of El Dorado Hills; and great-grandson, Ethan Van Valkenburg of Del Rey Oaks, CA. She was the fifth of nine children and is also survived by two brothers, James P. and Larry D. Latta; one sister, Ernestine Startup and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 4:00-8:00pm at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey, CA. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:00am at Monterey City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA for Monterey County, or just do something nice for someone.
