In Loving Memory of Bernd "Bernie" Hermann Schwentick
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernd "Bernie" Hermann Schwentick. He passed away peacefully in his Phoenix home, several months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. He dreamt as a child to eventually live in America. In his 40's, he made that dream come true by moving with his wife, Christine and son, Martin to Phoenix, Arizona. He eventually became an American citizen. He never ceased to learn, change, and grow. His ambition, dedication to learning and self-improvement defined his life.
Professionally, Bernie was a trailblazer. As the former CEO and Founder of Best Western Hotels Germany, he shaped the landscape of the hospitality industry with his innovative vision. He also ventured into the tech world by founding Orderpoint Technologies, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit.
Bernie's career was marked not only by professional achievements but also by his adventurous spirit. He had visited all 50 states and traveled extensively around the globe. He spoke many languages. Bernie found joy in numerous hobbies. He was a passionate chess player, an avid reader, a computer whiz, a culinary enthusiast, a martial arts practitioner, and an enthusiastic hiker. Bernie was a life long learner.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christine, and his daughter Victoria. His son, Martin passed 7 months after Bernie.
A memorial celebrating Bernie’s remarkable life was held on November 19th 2023 at the family’s cherished home of 30 years in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of curiosity, learning, and enthusiasm for knowledge will continue to inspire us.
