BERNICE LAIRD
July 15th, 1928 - May 15th, 2011
Bernice Sharpe Laird entered into eternal rest on May 15, 2011. Mrs. Laird was predeceased in death by her husband of 59 years, Mr. James B. Laird. She was born July 15, 1928, daughter of the late Richard M. Sharpe and Vallie B. Sharpe. Mrs. Laird was a Cosmetologist for more than 45 years, operating her own salon. She served as past President of the NHCA State Affiliate #9, and was later elected State Affiliate President for the Year 1981. She was a SC State Board of Cosmetology Examiner for over 30 years, a Certified Cosmetology Instructor and Volunteer for the Look Good-Feel Better Program for the American Cancer Society for over 16 years. She was the recipient of numerous award winning coiffure competitions throughout her career. Survivors include her two sons, Douglas B. Laird of Mt. Pleasant, SC, James M. Laird and his wife Linda of Isle of Palms, SC; two grandchildren, Dr. Jason M. Laird of Lahui, Hawaii, James A. Laird and his wife Emily of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two great-grandchildren, Walker James and Ella Lucille Laird; and her sisters, Brenda Monts & Freda Williams; along with many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Laird was predeceased by her younger brother, Richard T. Sharpe. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011, from 1pm to 2:30 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home with graveside services at 3pm in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all Staff members at Lexington Extended Care.
