Bernice Nelson of Cloquet passed away September 5, 2010. Bernice had spent the last several years as a resident of the Lighthouse Home in Cloquet. She was born in Ogilvie, MN and grew up in Brook Park on the family farm. Bernice and her husband, Bernard, farmed in Hinckley until 1948 when they moved to Cloquet where they lived out their life and raised their family of five children. Bernice was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet from 1948 to the present. She taught Sunday school and was active in the various ladies' groups, Zioneers, and the Brevator Birthday Club. She thought of herself as a homemaker, a wife, and mother, who also opened her home to foster care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; an infant daughter, Joanne; two brothers, John and Willard Burman and a sister, Alyce Peterson. Bernice is survived by her five children, Len Nelson of San Antonio, TX, Gerald (Kay) Nelson of Moose Lake and Surprise, AZ, Dean (Gerry) Nelson of Barnum, Judy (Ken) Skillern of Sugar Land, TX and Suzanne Gamble of Pasadena, TX; two foster daughters, Bonnie (Tom) Terpstra of Houston, TX and Kimberly (David) Olson of Hastings; a brother, James Burman of Cloquet; 14 grandchildren, 3 foster grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service were held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 in Zion Lutheran Church, Cloquet. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
