Over 100 Years of Service
Atkins-Northland Funeral Home has been proudly serving the families of Carlton and South St. Louis counties for nearly 100 years. Originally founded in 1936 as the Northland Cooperative Burial Association, it was part of Cloquet’s cooperative spirit, created by a group of 21 local funeral providers. Over the years, the funeral home underwent various changes in ownership and location, becoming Northland Funeral Home, Inc. in 1984.
In 1993, Bob Atkins, a licensed funeral director in Minnesota and Wisconsin, was hired. With his wife Karen, also a licensed funeral director in Minnesota, they began planning a new facility. By 1995, they opened a handicap-accessible location at 801 14th Street in Cloquet. Under their leadership, the Mahtowa location closed in 2002, and by 2009, Bob and Karen purchased the business, renaming it Atkins-Northland Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Today, our team continues to serve with the same compassion and respect that the Cloquet community has come to trust. We offer a full range of burial and cremation services, life celebrations, permanent memorialization, Veteran services, and assistance with shipping. We're proud to be part of Minnesota's history and honored to continue helping families honor their loved ones with care.
