Bette McDonald, 73, of Cloquet, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. She was born in Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Alexander and Marie Lackman. Bette attended school in Breckenridge through the third grade and graduated in 1959 from Edgeley High School in Edgeley, ND. In 1963, she graduated from college in Wahpeton, ND with a bachelor's degree in teaching. Bette taught school in Hoyt Lakes for four years prior to her marriage to Robert "Bob" McDonald on October 18, 1967 in Hermantown. Following their marriage, she taught in Cloquet until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and its ladies circle and was a Carlton County Master Gardener. Bette enjoyed flower gardening and spending time at the cabin on Loon Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Manuel and Bruce Lackman and brother-in-law, Clarence Jaeger. Bette will be greatly missed by her husband, Bob, of Cloquet; sons, Scott of Singapore and David (Evan Goetz) of New York City; siblings, Rueben (Lois) Lackman of Mandan, ND, Rebecca (Dick) Olson of LaMoure, ND, Laurine (Gene) Olson of Litchville, ND, Leah Jaeger of Murfreesboro, TN, and Paul (Barb) Lackman of Jamestown, ND; sisters-in-law, Mary Lackman and Pat Lackman of Edgeley, ND. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service, Sunday, September 20, 2015 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge, Cloquet. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
