Betty C. Ballington WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Betty C. Ballington, 87, of West Columbia, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Paul E. Aebischer and Rev. Ryan Lyles. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harris Hall, Todd Sharpe, Wesley Hall, Eddie Corley, Doug Keisler and Dwight Corley. Honorary pallbearers will be Scatter Cheer Sunday School Class, Trotti Circle, and the Ladies Aid Society. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials in Mrs. Ballington's honor may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Stained Glass Window Fund, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169. Mrs. Ballington, widow of Herbert M. Ballington, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Earl Claude Corley and Claudia Victoria (Jo) Hendrix. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA-TROTTI Circle, Ladies Aid Society, Scatter Cheer Sunday School Class and a former Den mother for the Boy Scouts. She retired from Ft. Jackson where she worked in Postal Locator for many years. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Elledge of Lexington; son, Herbert M. "Ken" Ballington, Jr. (Carolyn) of Conway; grandchildren, Chad Elledge (Jill), Chris Elledge of Lexington, Nichole Lupo (Robert) of Decatur, GA; great-grandchildren, Alexis Elledge, Miller Elledge, Boggs Elledge, Carter Elledge and Cora Lupo,; sisters, Nancy Sharpe (Charles) and Edith Thompson all of West Columbia; brother, Homer E. Corley (Agnes) of Lexington; sister-in-law, Harriet S. Corley of Lexington; step-grandchildren, Kelly Carrion and Andrew Hamson both of Lexington; Brandi Thompson (Timothy) of Conway and Matt Abbott of Conway; step-great-grandchildren, Gavin Carrion, Finley MacIver and Garrett Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph H. and Charles E. Corley. A special thanks to her caregivers Cathy Jeffcoat Ayers and Robin Large also Ms. Terri, Mrs. Elaine and Ms. Oleane of Ahava Hospice.
