Betty Kathryn Luling

Betty Kathryn Luling , 84, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away March 18, 2017 surrounded by her family in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Betty was born April 4, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Bernice Sabor. She attended and graduated from St. Mary of the Woods High School in Indiana. Betty then joined the Novitiate of Sisters of Providence for two years with the intent to become a Nun. However, realizing that the goal to have a family was stronger, Betty returned home. She attended and graduated from Dominican University (then called Rosary College) in River Forest, Illinois in June 1955. She took a job at Argonne National Laboratory as an executive assistant.She met a young man, Charles H. Luling, on a blind date arranged by her mother's bridge friends, and after a year of dating, were married September 6, 1958 in Downers Grove, Illinois at St. Joseph Church. Initially they began their newlywed life in York, Pennsylvania, but settled to raise a large family in Overland Park, Kansas for many years, and later moved to Topeka, Kansas. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Luling, in 1989.
