Monterey- Beverly (Barteni) Anderson was born on April 13th, 1933 and departed from this world on October 4, 2012, after a series of sudden, debilitating strokes. She lived her life with a distinctive style and an attitude reminiscent of classier days gone by. One could always count on Beverly to cut a dashing silhouette, adding a level of sophistication to the local landscape. Through personal challenges and hardships, she persevered with dignity and grace. Beverly?s great loves were her family, her church community, her cat, her culinary accomplishments, her home-grown coastally-improbable tomatoes, and her San Francisco Giants, not necessarily in that order. She enjoyed a deep sense of pride in her local and Italian roots. It wasn?t too long ago that she proudly represented a dwindling population of senior Mission School Alumnae at their 70th reunion on a beautiful sunny afternoon in Soledad, where she spent her childhood years. Beverly was sharp witted and found great humor in life?s ironies. She was able to step into unusual situations as if she?d perfectly planned her unexpected arrival. If you happened to be going to the City for the day She was always game to tag along and be the perfect companion. Somehow she always knew about the hot new boutique, trendy lunch spot or artisan market long before most San Franciscans. In the last weeks of her life, Beverly was able to take up drumming, catch a Giants game at AT&T Park, and harvest her best garden bounty in years. Even when hospitalized, her personality persevered as her gestures and expressions found a way to surface through the foggy limitations of stroke. Just two days before she passed, Beverly found triumphant peace and comfort by conducting opera with her good hand. Beverly is joined in death by her beloved daughter Christy, and is survived by her husband, Larry Anderson, her daughter Linda Green (Tom), her son Patrick Tregenza (Diane), her grandchildren Russ, Nick, Jenny, Scott, Harrison, and Colette, and seven great-grandchildren. Please join us for a celebration of life at St. James Church, 381 High St., Monterey, on Saturday, November 13th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. James (name of fund) or the Alliance on Aging. Adored by so many, she still seems so strong, even in death. Vibrant is a word that will always come to mind as her presence refuses to fade.
