On August 18, 2022, Billy Joe Patterson “Pops”, went to be with our Lord. He passed away peacefully with his wife and family at his side. He was the son of the late A.L. and Mary Minnie Bell of Hollow Rock, TN. Mr. Patterson served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. Then he worked for Southland Log Homes. He also worked as a steel worker and a mill wright. He had a love for fishing and camping and enjoyed the outside with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was loved by all 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and 3 fur babies (Macy, Maggie and MJ). They will truly miss him and he will leave an empty spot in each one of their hearts that will be hard to fill. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 59 years (just short of their 60 year anniversary); daughters, Tena Haile, Dora Gunter (Darel), Tammy Manley (Junior); sons, Billy Patterson (Terry), Brian Patterson (Tammy) - all of South Carolina, and Kenneth Patterson (Pam) of Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents A.L. and Mary Minnie Bell Patterson; two sisters, Carol Hopper and Christine Hilliard; four brothers, Charlie James “Bo”, Leon and Jeffery – all of Tennessee. Also, two grandsons, Joe Michael Haile “Little Joe” and Casey Conover. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held between 11 am and 1 pm. The burial will immediately follow the service at the Fox Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Lugoff, SC.

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
