Bonnie Marie Buck
February 21st, 1943 - February 21st, 2024
Bonnie Marie Buck went home to her Lord on February 21st, 2024, on the day of her 81st birthday. She was born Bonnie Marie Cox in Clarkdale, Arizona in 1943, and was raised in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Bonnie loved to sing. It was in her acapella choir at Lubbock Christian College where she met her love, Doug Buck. The couple married in 1963 in Carlsbad, NM. After working to support Doug through graduate school at Texas Tech, the newlyweds settled in Albuquerque in 1965, where they raised two children and were active in their church community. Bonnie and Doug were beautiful together and were blessed to live out 51 years in love.
Bonnie invested her life in service to others and was well known for her ministry to her family and friends. A gifted host, there was always room at her table as a place of fellowship to many. She influenced many through her love for the Lord and strong faith. Friendships and family were important to Bonnie. She loved being involved in women's Bible studies, serving at her church. Bonnie loved New Mexico and enjoyed her home, faithfully planting flowers each spring and later loved spending time at her family cabin in Colorado. She was seldom without a song and could always be found with a good book at her side. Faith and historical fiction were her favorites.
Bonnie loved traveling with her husband and close friends, all over the world. She is fondly known as “Aunt Bonnie” to ten nieces and nephews, and twenty-three great nieces and great nephews, and one great-great nephew. She loved everything she did, but a greater joy was derived from spending time in any form with her two grandchildren. Of all titles she held in this life, the single most treasured was her title of “Grandma Bonnie”. She played the role masterfully, often responding when the kids would say, “I love you Grandma” with a tongue-in-cheek “Oh...anything you want, sweetheart!” to express her simply being undone with joy.
Bonnie was a faithful wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and friend. We are thankful that she is whole and in the arms of Jesus. We are indebted to the legacy of faith she established in her life and the impact that it leaves in each of us. She will be greatly missed until we meet again.
Grateful for sharing life with her are her sister, Laura Ford of Santa Fe, NM; brother, Steve (Alicia) Cox of Houston, TX; daughter, Keri (Steve) Spriggs of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Graham Spriggs of Gunnison, CO, and Bailey Spriggs of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents Curtis and Ruth Cox, husband, Doug Buck, and son, Brad Buck of Albuquerque, NM.
A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held at Montgomery Church of Christ in Albuquerque, NM, on March 11th, 2024 at 10 a.m. Donations of remembrance can be made to African Christian College, https://africanchristiancollege.org/give a Christian ministry among many that were close to the hearts of Bonnie and Doug.
