Broadus "Holt" Whatley

Broadus “Holt” Whatley (formerly of East Haddam, CT) passed away peacefully at home in The Villages, FL on September 9, 2018. He was born on May 8, 1931 in Vicksburg, MS. Holt grew up in Vicksburg where he attended Carr Central High School, graduating in June 1949. He was employed in the Corp of Engineers, Vicksburg district 1949 -1951. Holt served active duty in the United States Navy 1951- 1953. Following that, he was a product designer for Bush Manufacturing Company in West Hartford 1953 – 1955 and attended University of Hartford School of engineering from 1953 until 1958. Holt retired in 1987 from Pratt & Whitney division of United Technologies as a Design Engineer where he was employed for 32 years. Holt was a proud Mason over his lifetime: Past Master of Columbia Lodge #26 A. F. & A.M, active in Scottish Rite and York Rite Shrine in Connecticut, past Commander of Cyrene #8 Commandry in Connecticut. Holt and his wife Libbie moved to The Villages, FL in 2001 where he was a member of many clubs and activities: Masonic Lodge of The Villages # 394 F&AM, The Villages Shriner club, High Twelve Club, concert band and the trap and skeet club. Holt was a practicing Baptist. He enjoyed shooting sports, hunting, fishing and golf. Holt is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Libbie (Brenenstuhl) Whatley; three sons Charles Whatley of East Haddam, CT, Robert Whatley and his wife, Helena Whatley of East Haddam, CT, and Kirk Whatley of Hadley, MA; six grandchildren Chase Whatley, Erin Whatley, Rebecca Whatley, Kate Whatley, Charles Whatley Jr, and Timothy Whatley; two great grandchildren; three brothers, including his twin Harold Whatley of Vicksburg, MS, Roy Whatley of Atlanta, GA, and Robert Whatley of Georgetown, TX. Memorial service will be held Monday October 22, 2018 11:00 AM at HIERS-BAXLEY Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL 32162; followed by the committal at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 2:00 PM, where US Navy honors will be rendered.
