Bruce James Dawley Bruce James Dawley passed away peacefully just before dawn on March 17, 2013, wife Patricia by his side, at his home in Veneta, Oregon. Bruce was born December 5, 1933, in Proctorsville, Vermont. After high school, he served for 12 years in the Air Force and Army, and was stationed in New York, France, North Africa, and elsewhere around the world, and finally at Ellsworth AFB, SD. He remained proud of his service all his life. He married Patricia Elaine Salveson in Rapid City, South Dakota, on October 12, 1960. They moved to Tioga, North Dakota, in 1964, and to their current home in Veneta in 1968. Bruce worked in a variety of occupations, including an ambulance service in Eugene, OR before opening his own motorcycle repair shop in 1973. He operated the shop until his retirement in 1995. Bruce greatly enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, military history, aircraft, learning, playing guitar, tinkering in shop and yard, spoiling his pet cats and grandsons, and spending time with family. His interest in motorcycles included attending the early years of the Sturgis, South Dakota, Motorcycle Rally in the 1950s and 60s, and several more visits after retirement. After retirement, Bruce and Pat enjoyed traveling in their RV, the occasional cruise, and spending summers in Wildrose, ND and winters in Arizona. Bruce is survived by his wife Patricia, son Bryan Clark (Theresa) and Jeffrey Eliot, grandsons Benjamin James and Isaac Garvin, sister-in-law Barbara (Clarence) Bartram, three nephews, four nieces, and favorite cats Kali, Grace, and Pepper. At his request, no service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelter Animal Resource Alliance (S.A.R.A), PO Box 41462, Eugene, OR 97404. He was much loved and will be missed. His family expects that he is tinkering in “God's little green pea patch” about now. Service Information

Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home

At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
