Candelaria "Candy" Cormier
February 2nd, 1971 - September 15th, 2024
Candelaria “Candy” Cormier passed away on September 15th, 2024, in Charleston, SC after a courageous battle with cancer she was 53 years young. Candy was born on February 2nd, 1971 (St. Candelaria’s Day) in Tula Tamaulipas, Mexico. She has lived in Bluffton, SC for the last 24 years where she met the love of her life, Donald Brian Cormier. The two started dating in 2002 and were married June 21st, 2009.
Candy worked in the restaurant field for many years before becoming a professional housekeeper. Brian was also in the restaurant field (how they met) for 30 years. The two joined together in starting a business, Cormier’s Cleaning Services, in 2018, which grew very rapidly. Before she passed away, they had grown the business, changed the name to Maid for You Cleaning Services and operated the largest cleaning company on Hilton Head Island. Candy was very dedicated to her team and loved them all very deeply. She created an atmosphere that was not just Employer/Employee but one with family love for the team. All these principles are founded on her Christian beliefs, and she had a very strong love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Candy loved to travel to various places. Over the years, she has been to Las Vegas, Utah, North Carolina, Florida, Cozumel Mexico, Haiti, Porta Vallarta, Georgia and many other places but Miami was her favorite destination of all.
Candy is survived by her husband Donald Brian Cormier; four Children; Rhonda “Flakita” Michelle Betancourt with husband Pecho Betancourt and their 3 children Isaac Manuel Betancourt, Isabella Angeline Betancourt, and Jacob Brian Betancourt; Monserrat “Gato” Penaflor with husband Juan Penaflor and their 3 children Gabriella Monserrat Penaflor, Emily Briana Penaflor, Joanellie Mia Penaflor; Miriam “Miros” Amaya and her daughter Faith Adalina Bailey; and her son Anthony “Tony” Brian Cormier. She is also survived by her Mother Nazaria Sanchez Maldonado and Father Severiano Maldonado; Sister Domitila Maldonado and her children Denisse Canales, Jessica Canales, Rosario Canales, Agustin Canales, Alejandro Canales; Her Brother Alvaro Maldonado with his wife Adriana Maldonado and their children Christian Maldonado and Alvaro Jr Maldonado; Sister Martha Maldonado with her husband Jesus Garcia and three children Alondra Garcia, Alexandra Garcia, and Eduardo Garcia; Brother Francisco Javier Maldonado with Julie Collett and child Jessica Maldonado; Sister Angelica Maldonado with Ernesto Moreno with children German Villanueva, Marissa Villanueva, Erik Eduardo Maldonado, Roxana Villanueva and Ernesto Jr Moreno; Brother Omar Maldonado with Nelly Romo and children Omar Jr Maldonado, Emily Maldonado, Mariah Maldonado, and Yanneth Maldonado; She is preceded in death by her brother Navor Maldonado and survived by his wife Marylu Palmillas and their children Marco Antonio Maldonado and Perla Lucero Maldonado.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Island Funeral Home & Crematory 4 Cardinal Road on Hilton Head Island South Carolina Friday September 20th. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at St. Lukes United Methodist Church 3080 Okatie Highway in Bluffton on Saturday September 21st starting at 5:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Candy Cormier’s life. In lieu of donations, please send Roses of any color to the Island Funeral Home for Candy’s Memorial Visitation.
