Carolyn "Cookie" J. Wiley Tafoya
June 13th, 1942 - July 5th, 2016
Monterey Carolyn "Cookie" Wiley Tafoya died Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in Pacific Grove, CA surrounded by her family and friends. Carolyn was born in Los Angeles, CA June 13, 1942. She lived in Monterey for 40 years after growing up in the San Joaquin Valley. She worked at the Carmel Pine Cone which led her back home to become the Business Editor of her hometown newspaper, The Merced Sun-Star before she returned back to Monterey to retire. Her passion was journalism. She loved writing stories about real people. She authored 7 books, 2 songs, 2 screenplays amongst hundreds of news articles and was a freelance writer for Women's Day Magazine. Her favorite interview was with Kris Kristofferson. She volunteered on several political campaigns and was an avid democrat. The first campaign she worked on was Clint Eastwood's run for Mayor of Carmel. This ignited her passion and she later volunteered on local, state and national campaigns. Survivors include her 3 daughters, Brenda (David) Roncarati, Diane Gregson, Ruby Cohan. Her 8 grandsons, Matt & Jeremy Roncarati; Chris & Jason Gregson; Zack, Spencer, Connor and Dylan Cohan. Her great grandson Nicholas Roncarati. Her brother Gene Wiley and sisters, Mary Gayle Coronado and Janice Wiley. She is preceded in death by her father Rexford Powell Wiley and her mother Dorotha McIntire Hall; her sisters Janet Hartwell, Sue Hartwell and her brother Buddy Wiley. Also the love of her life, Jim Adam. A Celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, July 24 at Oak Newton Park, 401 Oak St, Monterey CA at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association in honor of her nephew Ryan Farnsworth.
