GILBERT: Funeral services for Chad Allen Smith, 18, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Reverend Edward Lynch. Interment will follow at St. Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard A. Smith (father), Doug Ferdinande, David Deweese, A.J. Smith, Austin Williams and Trace McLaughlin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Lexington High School Technology Center, Welding Department, 2421 Augusta Highway, Lexington, SC 29072. Mr. Smith went to be with his Lord, Sunday, May 27, 2012. Born in West Columbia, SC, he was the son of Richard Allen Smith and Ruby O'dette Deweese Smith. He was a member of Airport Baptist Church. Chad attended Gilbert High School where he was to graduate Saturday, June 2, 2012. He loved his 2001 Mustang; and he was a friend to everyone. Chad will be greatly missed. Survivors include his parents, Richard A. Smith and Ruby Smith of Gilbert; sister, Ashley Smith Ferdinande and brother-in-law, Douglas Ferdinande of Gilbert; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his beloved pet Max. Chad was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond C. "Cotton" Smith, Sr. and Barbara R. Smith-Lindner, Libby Deweese and Nathan Deweese.
