Charles Howard Davis
November 6th, 1930 - June 26th, 2015
Charles H. Davis, U.S. Navy (Ret.) 1930 - 2015 Charles (Chuck) H. Davis passed away on June 26, 2015 at TideWell Hospice in Venice, FL after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his daughter, three sons, and a daughter-in-law at the time of his death. Chuck was born in West Philadelphia, PA and attended Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles B. and Olivia (Crompton) Davis and his wife of 60 years Alice M. (Robbins). He was the eldest of eight children and most recently lost his sister Nancy Upton (Wayne) and brother William (Deborah). He was also preceded in death by his precious infant grandson Nicholas. Chuck is survived by his daughter Teresa Davis, sons Patrick Kevin (Carol), Charles Howard, Jr., and Christopher Sean (Donna), brothers Harry (Anne), Dennis (Laurie), & Jack (Pat), and sisters Louise Capner (Jack) & Pat Deininger (Charlie). Chuck was also the proud grandfather of Patrick K. (Jeanine) Davis, Natalie M. Wlodarczyk, James M. (Jen) Davis, Justin Davis, Mark A. (Molly) Wlodarczyk, Alyson Davis, Jordan Davis, Joshua Ermert, & Shane Ermert. And he was great grandfather to Jake Davis, Luke Davis, Tristen Ermert, Grant Wlodarczyk, and Jordan Lynn Davis. Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948, and retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1967. He spent another ten years on Fleet Reserve. He served aboard the USS Philippine Sea CV-47, and the Great Sitkin, AE 17. He later became a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and served in several intelligence agencies before retirement. For the past 25 years he was active in the Fleet Reserve Association, Florida Chiefs Association, and the USS Philippine Sea Association, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer. Chief Davis will be laid to rest with full military honors in Sarasota National Cemetery at 12:30 pm on July 10, 2015. A luncheon in his honor will be served in Venice following the service.
