Charles Paxon Hayes was born February 17, 1940 in Laurens, South Carolina. He was the son of John Jay Hayes and Rachel Paxon Hayes and had an older brother, Jay Hayes and younger sister Helen Rae Hall. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma Ruth Hayes, daughter, Ruth Paxon Hayes Wordelman and grandchildren Justin and Madison Bolas. He served in the military all of his life. He had a short stint in the Navy which was then followed by 17 years in the Air Force as a social worker. He retired in 1986 from the Air Force Academy. His family lived in Monument, Colorado from 1981 until the present. He passed at home surrounded by love and family after a long battle with kidney and liver failure due to his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He touched the lives of so many. He was a gentle and kind man with a heart of gold. Those who knew him knew his loving spirit and love of all people always seeking to find the good in everyone. He will be missed and his spirit will live on in all of us for all of eternity. Donations can be made in Charles name to the Wounded Warriors.
