Charles Nardine

March 22nd, 1947 - February 11th, 2024

Charles William Nardine departed this life in the early morning hours of February 11, 2024. His voyage through life is most notably remembered by his undeniable love and generosity to his family and friends.

Charlie was born on March 22, 1947, in Trinidad, Colorado to Ben and Geneva Nardine. He attended Trinidad High School where he was a standout football player, graduating in 1966. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served a thirteen month tour of duty in Vietnam. Up until his death, he remained active in representing Vietnam Veterans, creating lifelong friendships. He was always proud to wear his Vietnam Veteran’s cap. Upon his Honorable Discharge he enrolled at Trinidad State Jr. College for two years majoring in Criminal Justice.

Charlie worked a number of jobs, with his most recent as a truck driver prior to his retirement. He enjoyed going to the casinos and watching football, basketball and hockey. His most memorable moments involved going on fishing trips with his family and friends and spending time with friends at the ranch in Kim, Colorado. He also enjoyed taking road trips with his favorite niece.

Charlie is known for his sense of humor and kindness. He always had a special place in his heart for others and maintained a willingness to help them. He had an outgoing personality and often struck up conversations with people he did not know. To him, no one was a stranger, but a person who had a purpose in life. He touched so many people in his life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever live on in our hearts.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 51 1/2years, Virginia and son, Charles Jr., his sisters Marianne and Angie and brother Ben, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. The family extends its deepest gratitude to all those who have kindly offered condolences and support during this difficult time. Your love and kindness are greatly appreciated.

Our family friend, Charlie. I will miss your phone calls and your careful way of extending your heartfelt emotions. I truly believe you lived life and left us, never having an enemy. A child’s heart, Charlie, you were wiser than most and I loved that about you. It was like you had a secret that you were going to protect…. and protect you did. We are all richer for knowing you. A buddy, a friend, a good guy we will never forget. Since 5th grade for 65 years and more we chummed around together, hunting, fishing, just sitting around shooting the bull and wetting our whistles with a beer or two. Always around to help out, never backed down and never said no. Thanks for the handshakes from a Marine to a Navy guy! You will be missed, you already ARE! Forever a friend, buddy, brother and remembered. Holler at you later! Antero (Ted) Zuniga

Mike Martinez

I met Charlie when we were majoring in Criminal Justice at Trinidad State Jr. College. We became best of friends patrolling the campus at night as part of the police cadet program. He was such an inspiration. Charlie was the best man at our wedding 51 years ago and was there again to help celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. So grateful we shared a lifelong friendship. We will miss the breakfasts and early dinners. Until we meet again my friend. You are sadly missed. Mike and Dee Martinez

Charlie is remembered as a kind a friendly man who had the ability to bring laughter to all occasions. He was a formidable foe on the football field in the south central league. His service to his country is well known and respected by all who knew him. Rest in peace my friend. Till we meet again. Pat Sandoval
