Christina Irene Chastain passed away in Sarasota, FL on June 27, 2006. She was 88 years old. She was born on November 5, 1917 in Washington County, IN to Wilbur and Mabel Stephenson who preceded her in death. She is also preceded by a twin sister at birth, a brother and a brother-in-law. She was a graduate of Campbellsburg High School and Indiana University. A life long educator, she taught for over thirty years in the Washington County school system. She was a member of Canton Christian Church since 1958. She was a devoted wife to Mason Chastain for over 50 years, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter Marcella Garriott and husband William; a son Rickie and wife Patricia, four granddaughters: Debra Ash, Malinda Louiso, Yvette Altman, and Michelle Chastain, all of Sarasota; three grandsons: Timothy Payne and Stacy Chastain of Sarasota and Eric Chastain of Killeen, TX; a sister, Juanita Hancock of Peoria, AZ; a brother, Cleo Stephenson of Salem, IN; 12 great grandchildren, one deceased at birth and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Sarasota; Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Stevens Museum, 307 E. Market Street Salem, IN 47167 or TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd Sarasota, FL 34238 or to the American Cancer Society, 2801 Fruitville Rd, Suite 250, Sarasota, FL 34237.
