Claire Woodward Bone

Claire Woodward Bone departed this life peacefully with her family by her side on the evening of May 18, 2022. Claire, born September 11, 1921 in Mocksville, NC, was blessed to celebrate her 100 years and offered this humble prayer “Heavenly Father, we thank thee that we have enjoyed a history of good things.” Claire is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert Thomas Bone Sr. She is also preceded in death by mother, Zelma Zoola McClamrock and father, Jonathan Wickliffe Woodward; sister, Mabel Wrenn, and brothers John Woodward, Isadore Woodward, Arthur Woodward, and Rodwell Woodward. Her surviving siblings are her sister Louise Collins and brother George Woodward of North Carolina. Claire is survived by daughters Carolyne Carter (Jimmy), Julie Strasburger (Frank), and Bonnie Rossiter (BJ); sons Tommy Bone and Keith Bone (Bonnie T.). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Nancy Raines (Kevin), Jim Carter (Angela), John Carter (Angie), Robbie Bone, Brian Bone (Ann), Kevin Bone (Crystal), Kristi Lynn Bone, J.J. Hammond (Megan), Jordan Hammond (Keren), Jillian Kinch (Jason) and her step-grandchildren, Trent Rossiter, Amy Fowler (Daniel) Casey Rossiter, and Collin Rossiter. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Claire will also be deeply missed by her 37 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Claire was devout in her faith and loved our Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Columbia/West Columbia. Throughout her life she was called to serve in many positions, as Sunday School and Young Women’s MIA teachers, president of the Women’s Relief Society Organization among others. Before her marriage to R.T., she graduated from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, North Carolina, where she earned a degree and was awarded for her high academic achievements with a nursing residency in a competitive program. During their 65 year marriage, she worked alongside R.T. in various business ventures, as well as years of work for First National Bank and SC Employment Security Commission. As the matriarch of her family, she is remembered as a wonderful and loving mother, wife, sister, aunt and always supportive and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother; her great-grandchildren knew her best as “GiGi.” Having grown up on a farm, she loved flowers, birds, fresh fruits and vegetables, especially corn on the cob, herbal remedies, and never missed an opportunity to embrace all the beauty of God's earth! The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at NHC in Lexington for their outstanding and loving care of our mother. Telisa, Faith, Lisa, Van, Ashley, Glover, Destiney, Mychaela, Sierra, Katie, James, and many unnamed, we appreciate and love you all. Services will be held on May 25th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1330 Whippoorwill Drive West Columbia, SC 29169. A visitation will take place at 11:30, with a church service at 12:30pm, and burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park to follow directly after services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukraine Relief Fund via The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
