Clarence O. Olsen, 83 of Mahtowa, died from complications of Parkinson's Disease on Saturday, February 28, 2004 in the Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born on December 26, 1920 to Haagen and Thora (Bakken) Olsen in Superior, Wisconsin. He was raised in Mahtowa and worked for the federal government in Washington D.C. before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he was a dairy farmer for 20 years, and later worked in real estate and for the U.S. Postal Service. Clarence served on the Mahtowa Co-op Store Board of Directors in the 1950's and on the Barnum School Board in the early 1970's. He enjoyed sports and was an avid bowler. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Thorwald, Henry, Edward and Harold Olsen; a sister, Helen Peterson and a baby daughter, Pamela. Clarence is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Mahtowa; a daughter, Yvonne Olsen and husband, Craig Pearthree of Minneapolis; a son, Brian (Nancy) Olsen of Mahtowa; two grandchildren, Ben and Mikhail Pearthree and a step granddaughter, Noelle Stevens. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 in Salem Lutheran Church, Mahtowa. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Barnum. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
