Clifford Ward
May 26th, 1923 - December 4th, 2011
Clifford Vincent Ward, 88, passed away on December 4, 2011. A memorial service will be held Thursday December 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Montview Presbyterian Church,1980 Dahlia Street, Denver, Colorado 80220. Clifford was born on May 26, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska to Israel and Hilma Ward. He was the eldest of five children. Cliff graduated from Benson High School in Omaha. In June of 1944 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Cliff served as a B-17 Co-Pilot in the 486th Bomb Group which took him to Europe during WWII. Cliff married Anoma Elaine Anderson at the Covenant Church in Wakefield, Nebraska on September 1, 1946. They celebrated their 65th Wedding anniversary this year. Nomy preceded Cliff in death by just two months. Cliff and Nomy are the parents of 3 children, Candy, Mike and Paul. The family lived in Omaha until 1949 when they moved to Wakefield where Cliff built numerous homes both rural and in town including some of the homes south of the city park. His construction business took their family back to Omaha and then to Denver in 1957. Cliff worked on and supervised numerous construction projects in Colorado including the Federal Correctional Institute and the lodges at the Keystone Ski Resort. Cliff will be remembered for his inquiring mind and deep thoughts. He loved to consider the future of politics and the economy, and was very interested to find out “how it will all play out”. He enjoyed challenges such as the design of complex spiral staircases, and disliked mundane chores such as detailed finish work. Cliff loved Nomy and his children and was a good provider. He taught diligence and efficiency in working, perseverance in difficult circumstances, and the importance of education and critical thinking. Cliff is survived by his daughter, Candy of Denver, son Mike and wife Lorna of Tucson, AZ, and son Paul and wife Lucinda of Denver; 4 grandchildren, Zachary Ward and wife Cheryl of Chicago, IL, Jacci Miranda and husband Ryan of Swansea, MA, Cameron Ward of Seoul, South Korea, and Katie Ward of Tucson, AZ; 2 great-grandchildren Sage and Caleb Miranda; and his brother Don Ward, and wife Carol of Parker. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of the giver’s choice. Cliff and Nomy’s ashes will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in a brief ceremony in the Spring.
