Clyde L. Roberts, Jr., age 92, Venice, FL, formerly of Atlanta, GA and Tampa/Plant City, FL, died July 6, 2024.

A Celebration of Life was held at Village on the Isle on July 7, 2024. We were blessed to have our entire family attend the ceremony, along with many family friends and friends from Village on the Isle. A private burial will be at Sarasota National Cemetery.

Clyde was born on April 30, 1932, in Atlanta, GA. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Florida and Georgia. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Roberts’ career included positions as Chief Industrial Engineer of Atlantic Steel Company in Atlanta and Florida Regional Manager of Florida Steel Corporation in Tampa. Memberships included Kiwanis Clubs in Tampa and Plant City, Florida plus the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute where he served as Director and member of the Executive Committee, and Director of the Associated General Contractors of Tampa. He also served as President to the Suncoast Chapter of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.

Mr., Roberts served several years on Tampa Area hospital boards in positions of President, South Florida Baptist Hospital Trustees; Vice-Chairman, St. Joseph’s-Baptist Health Care Coard of Directors; Director, Bay Care Health System. He also served as Deacon in several Baptist churches in Florida and Georgia and was a music director and baritone soloist for a number of churches in these states. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Venice and subsequently Venice Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Nettie, a daughter, Linda Thompson of Charlotte, NC, a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Amy Roberts of Venice, FL, three grandchildren, Matt Thompson and his wife Sophie Pierce of Los Angeles, CA, Dan Roberts of Winston-Salem, NC Allison and her husband Michael Mayer of Charlotte , NC, and great granddaughters Ainsley and Piper Mayer. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Randall Thompson and sister Beverly Palmer.
