Columbia-A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Connie Marie Monroe at 1:00 P.M., on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor Ellen Skidmore officiating. Connie passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Carl Alexander Monroe, Jr. Connie was born on June 22, 1935; was from a large family and grew up in North Carolina. Connie traveled with her husband during his military career and raised two children, Cynthia K. Monroe (Warren Southerland) and Michael C. Monroe (Amy). Connie was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Grandchildren include, Lauren M. Powell (Matt) and Ben A. Monroe; they will lovingly miss their grandmother. Her great-grandson, Beau Powell had a loving year to enjoy his great-grandmother, affectionately referred to as "GG." She is survived by three brothers, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Among her cherished memories were traveling the country with her husband, attending Forest Lake Presbyterian Church and sharing Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays with her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Rd, Columbia, SC 29206.
